Here are tonights selections:
5 Units Wisconsin -4 -105
The pressure is on the Badgers to defend their Big Ten title. It won't be easy to do without Kirk Penney, their best all-around player last year. Tough-guy Mike Wilkinson will gladly eat an elbow or two to pick up a loose ball or a rebound. Devin Harris can score and play defense, while Alando Tucker will add savvy. Freshman center Brian Butch is a McDonald's All-American whose debut is eagerly awaited. He could be a significant player this season. Penn coach Fran Dunphy must find a way to replace 6’-8” F Ugonna Onyekwe (16.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and a strong senior nucleus if the Quakers are to repeat their success from last year. A large part of the scoring will now fall upon 6’-6” senior wing player Jeff Schiffner (11.4 ppg, .493 3-Ps), a very good long-range threat who led the nation in three-point percentage but might have to work harder this season to find the open shot. 6’-5” starting guard Tim Begley (6.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.9 apg) is a reliable, versatile player who should help significantly. Six-footer Charlie Copp becomes the new starting point guard, and his play will determine much of what happens for this team. Utah transfer Eric Osmundsen will make backcourt depth a strength and Adam Chubb should start in the middle next to junior PF Jan Fikiel. Both squads are pretty young, but Penn doesn't have the size to keep this one close!!!

Long road trip for Ohio State. The Buckeyes will look to control the boards this game with a nice young frontcourt of 7'-0" Velimir Radinovic and 6'-9" Terence Dials. They are rebuilding a bit, and will look to play good defense here. They'll have to, as San Francisco is a very strong, run-and-gun offensive club with four starters returning off a squad that led the WCC in all shooting categories last season (69.6 points pg). San Fran has a number of good shooters, anchored by 6’-5” senior John Cox (18.9 ppg last year) but they lack height and are not a good defensive squad, and that will hurt here. SF was very good at home last season (10-5 SU, 8-5 ATS) but look for the Buckeyes to use their muscle, height and defense to get the road win!!!
10 Units Mississippi -11 -105
Arkansas State (13-15 last season) has plenty of height and experience to move up a level this season. They have a good front line in 6’-7” sophomore Chris Moore, 6’-8” senior Kim Adams (8.8 rebounds per game) and 6’-8” sophomore Lucious Lenear. 6’-1” senior Tevoris Thompson is a sparkplug guard who led the team in scoring with 15 points per game. But they've got to learn how to play on the road (3-9 SU, 5-6 ATS on the road last year). The frontcourt will have a big test here against Mississippi. The Rebels have an even better frontcourt in 6'-8" Justin Reed (15.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg) and 6'-7" Aaron Harper (12.2 ppg). The Rebels were 10-6 SU in home games a year ago (4-6-1 ATS, 5-1 OVER). Arkansas State didn't play a tough schedule last season and went out quiety in the Sun Belt tournament in the first game against Denver. In fact, this will be the toughest team that Ark-State has faced in a while and they may be a little shaky facing an SEC team!!!
